FORMER Yorkshire Cup winners Lower Hopton will be aiming to win back the prized silverware when they take on Thongsbridge in this year’s prestigious final.

Horbury WMC will stage the event on Sunday, August 31.

In the semi-finals Lower Hopton, who won back-to-back cups in 2005 and 2006, beat defending champions Brighouse Sports 246-171, after Brighouse had beaten Netherton Con in last year’s final, while high-flying Subscription Cup side Thongsbridge, beat Eccleshill 222-196.

The Henry Taylor Cup final is first up with Guiseley taking on Alverthorpe WMC (Hove Edge WMC, 2.30) on August 17, after Guiseley beat Netherton Con B 246-184 and Alverthorpe beat Lindley Lib 230-174, followed by the Eric Hutchinson and Derrick Radley double-header at Rastrick PSBC.

The Radley Trophy final between Grove Hill, of Otley, and Ossett Flying Horse, takes place at noon on August 24, followed by the Hutchinson Cup final from 3.00, between Eccleshill BC and Shipley BC.

Grove Hill beat Pudsey Littlemoor 196-187 and Ossett FH beat Magnet Sports 223-176 to contest the Radley final, while Eccleshill beat Oxenhope 226-180 and Shipley beat Skipton Craven 208-201 to form the Hutchinson final.
