PAUL SIGSWORTH and Jonathan Sykes have qualified for the third round of the Hill Crest Clifford Crawshaw Classic.

Sigsworth, runner-up to Tommy Johnstone in 2004, beat John Durrans (Warrington) 31-28 and Sykes beat Steve Brown (Warrington) 31-27 to go through.

Fellow Huddersfield bowler Mick Pollard was beaten 31-20 by Failsworth's Lee Lawton in the first round at Sowerby Bridge Hill Crest.

This year's competition features 14 former champions and is the 32nd staging of the event which has a prize fund of £5,490.

* Lower Hopton failed to retain their title as British Team Champions after losing to Budenbergs, of Cheshire, in this year's final held at Rylands Recreational Club, Warrington.

Lower Hopton, representing Yorkshire beat Haunchwood (North Midlands) 147-143, Birches Head (Potteries) 158-111, Tonge (Greater Manchester) 153-141 before losing to Budenbergs 125-149.

Lower Hopton currently lie fourth in the Manchester Premier League and entertain St Joseph's, of Blackburn, tonight and hope to build on last week's 15-2 victory at Tottington, Bury.
