PAUL SIGSWORTH will be aiming for a hat trick of Colne Valley Merit titles on Sunday.

Sigsworth, playing for Slaithwaite CBC in the Colne Valley Bowling League, has dominated the competition for the last two years, winning the competition in 2005 and 2006.

Golcar Liberal Club sponsor and host the event with the final beginning at 2.00.

In the Huddersfield Bowling League, leaders Netherton Con A had a solid points victory against Slaithwaite B winning 12-4 at Cowcliffe Lib to open up a three-point gap at the top of the Subscription Cup from title challengers Thongsbridge.

Keith Midwood’s side will be determined to add a fourth consecutive Subscription Cup title, after missing out on the Yorkshire Cup last month, when they were beaten by Brighouse Sports.

Top-scoring for Netherton was Paul Sigsworth with a sweep-taking 21-3 victory while Ashley Daykin also took his opponent off for a single figure, in their 12-4 (223-192) victory against Slaithwaite’s second string who are fifth.

Title-challengers Thongsbridge maintained their pressure on the leaders with a big 14-2 win against Golcar Lib, at Elland No1.

With 10 winners to Golcar’s two Thongsbridge took the aggregate points with a big 243-182 win.

Latest qualifiers for the ReNew Windows Masters at Spen Victoria, on Saturday, September 15, are Mirfield duo Allan Thompson and Andrew Sykes who beat Mark Foster (Manchester) and David Walker (Leeds) 21-11 and 21-14 respectively to go through.

Jack Clarke and Gary Ainley, of Sheffield, and Darren Plenderleith and Peter Varney, of Tamworth, are the latest qualifiers for the Mirfield Old Bank Autumn Double.
