HUDDERSFIELD Ladies retained a sixth consecutive Yorkshire Inter-District title – but the men’s team missed out on a semi-final place.

Both competitions now take the form of a one-day format and the ladies’ team, whose games were played to 15-up, excelled.

They lost 133-121 against Bradford but bounced back to beat West Riding 146-123 to go top of Section I and through to the final where the 10-player team comfortably won 131-102.

Huddersfield’s men’s team travelled to host district Castleford and faced Wakefield in back-to-back games at Townville.

Huddersfield, managed by Gerald Sykes and captained by Paul Sigsworth, eased past Wakefield with their 10-man team winning by 23 and 28 to give an overall aggregate of 51.

But they came a cropper against West Riding in the semi-final losing by two points 172-170.

There were notable performances by Huddersfield’s Jack Dyson, Sigsworth and Peter Kain who each won all three games as host district Castleford went on to win their very first Inter-District title with a 187-178 victory against West Riding.

Organiser of Almondbury Bowling Club’s Ladies Day, Christine Mizon, thanked everyone for taking part and making it another successful event for the club and she added that she looked forward to seeing everyone again next year.
