YORKSHIRE kick off their 2008 British Inter-County campaign against South Yorkshire on Sunday (2.00).

And stepping into the home team hot seat is former county star Allan Thompson (inset) who replaces Graham Hirst as manager.

Yorkshire are in the three-team Section IV and had a bye during May’s opening games but face tricky opposition against a South Yorkshire side who lost to Greater Manchester last month.

Yorkshire lost out to Cheshire in last year’s semi-finals and Thompson – who has 121 county caps, 15 behind all-time leader Robert Hitchen – will be determined to bring back the glory days of the Nineties.

Thornhill CBC is the home team’s choice of venue while the away outfit, whose 12-man team comprise half from Lower Hopton, travel to Swinton View Park, Mexborough.
