The Yorkshire Ladies Crown Green Bowling team have won back the County Championship title.

They beat North Shropshire at the Waterloo Green, Blackpool, by a resounding 65 points to reclaim the crown that slipped from their grasp last year.

Yorkshire were playing on the Blackpool green for the third time in consecutive years, having won the Waterloo Cup in 2011 before just losing out last year.

Their victory was quite an achievement on a green that was not in great condition.

This year Katie Turner (Cranmore) and Maureen Chambers (Castleford Town) made successful debuts for the county – Katie joining her mother Irene in the team.

After the first five jacks, Yorkshire were just one point in front, but a 21-7 from Karen Gant (Meltham) and 21-9 Katie Turner helped increase the lead to 28 points after 10 jacks.

Alexis Lunn-Gadd (Morton House) was a 21-7 winner in the next five jacks, increasing the lead to 46 points, and victory was sealed with wins including a 21-5 to Laura Middleton (New Mill), 21-6 Andrea Buckley (New Mill) and 21-7 Jacqui Roper (Meltham).
