RAWTHORPE Amateur Boxing Club’s Liam Tarandij is a youngster in a hurry! The Ainley Top ace is not only a budding talent on the boxing scene – he has also just won a British judo title.

He had to work hard to collect the 38kg 14-15 years crown in Sheffield, fighting four times on finals day.

Mind you, in the final itself, he needed just nine seconds to claim the honour, winning with an ippon (the equivalent of a knockout in boxing).

Remarkably, Tarandij weighs only 32kilos, so gave away more than a stone to his opponents.

Later this week he returns to boxing, fighting in Sheffield before a trip to Dartford, in Kent, where clubmate Cory O’Regan takes on a national champion in Ben Jones.

Rawthorpe also have fights arranged in Corby and Manchester before a trip to Cyprus for an international festival.
