ALISTAIR WARREN has been handed a Central area title shot.

The talented Huddersfield middleweight (inset) will take on Liam Cameron over in Sheffield on Friday, June 8.

Warren, nicknamed Burt, will be giving away home advantage to the 21-year-old former ABA champion.

But trainer Chris Aston believes it’s the perfect challenge as the ex-University of Huddersfield ABC fighter, now 23, tries to bounce back from his points defeat by unbeaten John Ryder last time out.

That was only the second loss on Warren’s 11-fight card, the other coming in his WBC youth world super-middleweight title clash with Frenchman Hugo Kasperski in Geneva in 2010.

Cameron, trained by former world champion Clinton Woods, has a 12 wins, one loss record since turning pro in October 2009.

And Aston pointed out: “Burt’s two defeats were against higher-class fighters than Cameron’s (against London-based Kenyan Erick Ochieng in Sheffield a year ago).”

Cameron came up against Warren’s stablemate Tyrone Nurse as an amateur and Aston added: “We’ve known about him for a long time.

“He was much touted when he turned pro and chalked up a string of wins before suffering that defeat by Ochieng.

“That was four fights ago, and he’s been rebuilding, but with his experience and stamina, which suits a 10-round contest, Burt will be a handful for him.

“Burt has ambitions of getting into the top 10 in the rankings, and if he is to realise them, he needs to get through a fight like this.”

Central is one of seven British Boxing Board of Control areas along with Southern, Midlands, Northern, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish.

Aston has guided Huddersfield fighters Dale Robinson (flyweight) and Shaun Armstrong (light-middleweight) to Central glory in the past.
