JASON McCALMON will fight for the Central area super-middleweight boxing title in Sheffield on Friday, December 2.

The rising Huddersfield star’s 10-round contest against home-city contender Wayne Reed means he has stepped down from this Friday’s live BoxNation bill at Halifax.

But trainer Chris Aston, who still has Tyrone Nurse in action in front of the Sky cameras but has pulled flu-hit Alistair Warren out of the show, believes it’s a small price to pay for the 23-year-old former Rawthorpe amateur, who has won all five of his professional fights.

“It’s a great chance for Jason to show what he’s about,” said Aston, who guided Huddersfield fighters Dale Robinson (flyweight) and Shaun Armstrong (light-middleweight) to Central glory.

“Success will open doors and I’ve seen some great Central title fights over the years.

“When it’s over 10 rounds, there’s no argument as to who is the better boxer, and we aim to show it’s Jason.”

Reed, a 24-year-old Southpaw, has won six of his nine pro bouts.

Nurse aims to stretch his 100% record to 20 fights when he takes on Slovakian Ivan Godor at Halifax’s North Bridge Leisure Centre on Friday.

McCalmon’s fellow former Rawthorpe fighter, bantamweight Scott Gladwin, faces Sheffield-based Kuwaiti Anwar Alfadli, the man he beat on his pro debut in July.

And Halifax light-welter Liam Walsh meets Michael Frontin

Top of the bill will be the Commonwealth title fight between Jeff Evans and Ovill McKenzie, while Derek Chisora has replaced Enzo Maccarinelli as the chief support attraction (ring Aston on 07917 881114 for ticket details).
