GARY SYKES will be in tip-top condition for Saturday’s big British super-featherweight title defence against Carl Johanneson at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

Syke is putting the finishing touches to his build-up at Chris Aston’s Linthwaite gym and the handler says he’s looking sharp.

“Gary is looking very sharp and come Saturday he’ll be ready to go,” said Aston.

“It’s going to be a top-drawer fight against Johanneson and I think Gary will be on his best form, because his latest sparring has been excellent.”

The bill – which also includes bouts for Huddersfield fighters Tyrone Nurse, Burt Warren, Jason McCalmon, Jason Thompson and Michael Smith – is live on Sky TV but is already just a few tickets short of a sell-out.

Ticket holders should note that doors open at 5pm and the Sky filming starts at 6pm – earlier than the previously-advertised time.

Potentially only a handful of £30 tickets will be available over the next couple of days, although there are some ringside seats left for the Matchroom promotion (contact Aston on 07917 881114 for details).

Demand is high because not only is the Sykes v Johanneson title fight a match-up of Yorkshire’s best from the 9st 4lb division, but Halifax’s Liam Walsh, exciting Londoner George Groves, Irish favouriteCarl Frampton and Middlesbrough’s Paul Truscott are also on the under card.
