HUDDERSFIELD amateur boxers Sean Reynolds and Jason McCalmon are fighting in the Irish Championships.

The Rawthorpe ABC members are competing in Dublin today and tomorrow with the aim of reaching the finals on Saturday, March 6.

Reynolds, who qualifies because his paternal grandparents are from Dublin, is contesting the welterweight division, which includes fighters who landed bronze medals in the tough World and European Championships.

McCalmon, whose mother is Irish, is in the light-heavyweights alongside an Olympic silver medalist.

“It’s a very high-class championship, similar to our ABAs, and it will be a really good test for Sean and Jason,” said coach Mark Reynolds.

Rawthorpe’s Cory O’Regan has made it into the semi-finals of the national Schoolboys’ Boxing Championships, which are being held in Barnsley.
