ALISTAIR WARREN is back in the hunt for a Central area title.

The popular Huddersfield boxer takes on Sheffield Southpaw Wayne Reed for the vacant super-middleweight belt a week tonight, July 20.

It’s a big boost for Warren – nicknamed Burt – after a planned Central middleweight title clash with Liam Cameron last month fell through.

The Reed showdown takes place at Hillsborough, home of football club Sheffield Wednesday, and the tough 25-year-old will aim to make it a miserable night for keen Sheffield United fan Reed.

He’s been preparing by sparring Ashley Vanzie, the brother of Bradford’s former British lightweight champion Bobby, and trainer Chris Aston says his man, who fought for the WBC youth title back in 2010, is in top condition.

“Reed’s no mug,” said Aston of the Glen Rhodes-schooled 24-year-old, who has an eight wins, five defeats record (former University of Huddersfield amateur Warren is eight wins, two defeats, one draw).

“But unlike Reed, Burt has experience of going beyond six rounds, and he’s put in a lot of work on coping with Southpaws.”
