HUDDERSFIELD riders made a big impact in the National Trophy Cyclo Cross at the Moorways Centre in Derby.

Abby Mae Parkinson (RST Racing Team-Trigon) took her first ever Cyclo Cross victory in the Under 16 Girls, leading from start to finish and Holme Valley Wheeler’s Amira Mellor was seventh.

Mellor’s finish saw her move up the rankings to third in the overall standings, with Parkinson victory moving her up to sixth place.

Louise Robinson continued her successful comeback by winning the women’s race by 12 seconds from Hannah Payton (Kinesis Morvelo Project) and Robinson’s Stourbridge CC club mate Isla Rowntree, 28 seconds back in third place.

Jake Womersley (Aire Valley RT) was having one of his best rides of the 2011 season, but tangled with Adam Martin (Cestria Cycles RT) on the last lap, both riders crashed and Womersley finished the race in 12th place – Hugo Robinson (X RT/Elmy Cycles) was first over the line.

Another rider having no luck was former Holme Valley Wheeler Richard Binks (Clay Cross RT) who crashed out of the veterans race.

The penultimate round of the National Trophy takes place at Peel Park, Bradford on Sunday, December 11.

Holme Valley Wheelers Jack Ford and Jim Brown were first and second in the Under 12 race at the Sheffield Stars Go Cross event.

Alex Bailey (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) was fastest Under 8 and Joe Williams (Holme Valley Wheelers) was fifth the Youth race, won by Levi Moody (Pedalsport CC).

Graham Piccavey (Huddersfield Star Wheelers ) was 20th in the Senior/Veteran/Women/Junior race which was won by Rob Partridge (Endura Racing).

Former Holme Valley riders Gabriel Cullaigh (RST Racing Team-Trigon) and Leon Gledhill (Planet X) had a good night at the Premier Division Track League last Tuesday night at Manchester Velodrome. Cullaigh’s best result was second in the 50 lap Points race and Gledhill was third in the Devil race.

Cullaigh’s teammate Josh Cutler, who took up cycling recently through Kirklees Cycling Academy, won two races at the First Division Track League on Friday night.

Cutler, racing in Group 3, won the Points and Unknown Distance races and has been promoted to Group 4 for this weekend’s event.
