ANDY PEARSON OF Huddersfield Star Wheelers maintained his fine hill climbing form in the weather-hit Otley 2 stage event.
The first climb up Guise Cliff was shortened due to the hurricane-like conditions.
Pearson finished third in 2min 37sec behind winner, national champion Matt Clinton (mikevaughn.co.uk), who clocked 2min 4.5sec and former national champion Jim Henderson (Southport CC), who finished in 2min 22.9sec.
The second and longer climb of Norwood Edge was once again won by Clinton with Henderson second in times of 5min 5.2sec and 5min 17.9sec respectively.
Pearson was fifth with a time of 5min 54.7sec, a 28sec improvement on his time from 2008 which was enough for fifth place overall.
Fifty three riders line up this Saturday for the Granville Sydney Memorial Hill Climb promoted by Huddersfield Star Wheelers.
The strong field includes two former national champions in James Dobbin and Jim Henderson and the current holder Matt Clinton.
The riders will have the 1540-yard climb from Jackson Bridge to Tinkers Monument to look forward to, which at its steepest point is 1 in 5.
There are plenty of local riders to cheer on with nine from the promoting club, seven from Holme Valley Wheelers and two from Huddersfield Road Club.
Madeleine Rollinson-Lord (Calder High) will have the honour of being first rider off at 2.01pm with Matt Clinton last man at 2.53pm.
