HUDDERSFIELD’S Olympic gold medalist Ed Clancy is leading a new team.
The team pursuit star who topped the podium in Beijing in 2008 has signed up with the Motorpoint Pro-Cycling Team to compete in all the premier UK events.
Motorpoint are the first car supermarket to launch their own team in this country.
Joining MBE Clancy in the saddle will be fellow GB team pursuit rider Andy Tennant, 48-year-old Sheffield-born Malcolm Elliott (the oldest professional cyclist in the country) plus Ian Bibby, Andrew Roche, Steven Burke and four others.
The team, run by Bingley-based Keith Lambert, formerly team chief at Halfords Bikehut, has already been in action, chalking up victories at the Cyclo-Cross National Championships, with Bibby winning the Elite Men’s race.
Also on the agenda are the British Premier Calendar, Tour Series and the Tour of Britain, together with a number of high-profile races in Europe and Asia.
The 10-strong team are set to get their first taste of overseas action at the Eddie Soens Singapore Criteria in Singapore in March, followed by the Cintron Tour Majorca in early April.
