LEON GLEDHILL was the highest placed local finisher in the fifth round of the Youths Yorkshire Cyclo Cross Winter series which took place at Bradley Woods Scout Camp.

The Holme Valley Wheelers rider finished fourth over the heavily wooded course, which is one of the most technical the riders face with treacherous descents, slippery tracks and unrideable climbs.

Gledhill’s teammates Harmony Waterman and Alex France were 10th and 16th respectively, in the race won by Nick Barnes (Seacroft Wheelers).

In the Under 8s race Tom Whitworth (Huddersfield RC) finished an impressive third and Hannah Whitworth was 14th in the event won by Mason Hollyman (Sowerby Bros).

Reece Wood (Aire Valley RT) won the Under 12s race with Seth Waterman (Holme Valley Wheelers) in fifth and Christopher Bullett (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) 14th.

There were 62 riders in the Seniors race and Neal Crampton (Crosstrax) was first across the line after an hour of racing.

Best of the Huddersfield riders was Graham Piccavey (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) in 23rd place, while Sharon Whitworth (Huddersfield RC) was fourth in the women’s event.
