HUDDERSFIELD Star Wheeler Mark Thaxter had his first win of the season in the Drighlington BC 25 mile time-trial.

Conditions were tough for the riders with strong winds and rain, and Thaxter was the only rider to go under 54 minutes with a time of 53min 22sec.

Clubmate Andrew Pearson posted a personal best of 1 hour 52 seconds.

Carl Saint (Yorkshire RC) was second in the YCF 10-mile time-trial, the Slaithwaite-based rider stopped the clock in 21-48, just over a minute behind Adam Duggleby (scienceinsport.com) in 20-44. Tom Broadbent (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) had another great result with fourth place in 22-05.

There were two local riders in the top 10 in the Hull Thursday Road Race for third and fourth category riders.

Gareth Owen (Team Swift) was sixth and John Doherty (VS Cycles) ninth in the 85km race at North Newbald, which was won by Ashley Proctor (Sheffrec CC).

Former Holme Valley Wheeler Jacob Scott (Planet X) won the Scunthorpe Youth Omnium at Quibell Park Velodrome.

The Omnium is a series of races including devil, points, time-trial and sprint and Scott was in the top three in all the events and he won the time-trial, which was enough to take the overall win from Tom Arnstein (Velo Ecosse) in second and Ollie Wood (Aire Valley RC) in third.

Abby Mae Parkinson (Aire Valley RC) was second in the Under 14 girls event, which was dominated by Grace Garner (Leicestershire RC) who won three of the four races to take the overall prize.

Parkinson won the points race and managed third in the sprint despite racing on a flat tyre!

At the first White Rose Youth League event at Richard Dunn Sport Centre, Bradford, it was Jacob Scott once again leading the way.

In a race dominated by the British Cycling Talent Team, in the Under 16 Boys Mirfield’s Jake Womersley (Aire Valley RT) was second and teammate Ollie Wood third.

The next event will be on May 25 with races for riders in all age categories. Further information email Peter Root: peterroot@britishcycling.org.uk
