BEN KELLETT (VS Cycles) travelled to Somerset for the latest round of the National Junior Series.

A highly competitive field rode the 77 hilly miles starting in the village of Somerton with the race including three riders who had ridden the Junior Paris Roubaix the previous week.

The race was won by Simon Yates (Maxgear RT) who had a 13 second lead on second and third place riders Lewis Balyckyi (Team Wallis) and Sam Harrison (Planet X Road CC).

Kellett finished in 36th place in an 18-strong group just over four minutes behind the leaders.

Chris Thompson (VS Cycles) showed some good early season form in the third and fourth Category CDNW race at Elswick in Lancashire.

Thompson was fourth in the 90km race which was won by Maher Al-Ausi (VC St Raphael).

Gareth Owen (VS Cycles) was best local finisher in the Hull Thursday third and fourth Category Road Race over a very hilly 85km course in North Newbald.

Owen finished just outside the top ten with teammate Dominic Turner right behind him.

The race was won by Jack Cutsforth (Star Bikes RT), and Ivan Boyes (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) hung onto the bunch and finished in 23rd place.

Huddersfield Star Wheeler’s Go Ride coaching sessions for six to 14-year-olds at Newsome Sports College are proving popular.

Coaches Darren Stringer and Ivan Boyes set up some Devil races to test the rider’s group riding skills and over future sessions will include Cyclo-cross skills at the Yorkshire Summer series which starts on Wednesday, May 5 at Oakbank School in Keighley.
