FORMER Batley CC rider Liam Holohan was an impressive sixth in the second round of the Premier Calendar, the Lincoln GP.
Holohan was in the thick of the action as the race reached the final ascent of Michaelgate after over three hours of racing with some of the top British-based professional riders.
Scott Thwaites (Endura Racing) came out of nowhere in the final few yards to get the win from Motorpoint Pro Cycling riders Ian Bibby, in second, and Jonny McEvoy, in third.
Thwaites’ big win came on the same day as the Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge, an event where he placed first back in 2006 as a 16-year-old.
Leon and Felicity Gledhill (Planet X) both won their events at the Tameside Circuit Race in Ashton-under-Lyne.
Leon beat former clubmate Gabriel Cullaigh (Holme Valley Wheelers) into second place in the Under 16 Boys race and Felicity was top-placed rider in the Under 12 Girls race.
Holme Valley Wheelers India Penrice won the Under 16 Girls event.
At the Darley Moor Motor Racing Circuit in Derbyshire Leon Gledhill was once again in a podium position in the Under 16 Boys race.
Conditions were awful with torrential rain not making it much fun for the Youth riders. Gledhill was in second place, Kirklees Cycling Academy’s Josh Cutler had his best result of 2011 in fourth and Leon Taylor-Woodhouse (Holme Valley Wheelers) was fifth. Abby Parkinson (Aire Valley RT) won the Under 14 Girls race.
VS Cycles John Doherty was the best local finisher in the Steve Rigby Memorial Road Race for 3rd & 4th Category riders on the Ledston circuit near Kippax.
Doherty was seventh place after the 80km race which was won by Ashley Proctor (Sheffrec CC). Huddersfield Star Wheelers Toby Miller and Paul Smith finished in the pack.
The next round of the Yorkshire Summer Cyclo Cross series takes place at City School in Sheffield next Wednesday night. The Under 14 event starts at 7pm and Over 14 section at 7.30pm.
The Over 14 event at Keighley was cancelled mid-race due to a crash involving Ben Pygott (Pedalsport CC). The rider suffered only minor injuries.
