YOUTH riders from Huddersfield produced a strong showing at the Darley Moor motor racing circuit.

The event at Ashbourne, Derbyshire, featured youth and senior riders and in the Under 16 race Mirfield’s Jake Womersley (Aire Valley RT) lost by barely a tyre’s width to teammate Ollie Wood.

Former Holme Valley Wheelers, now racing for Planet X, Leon Gledhill and teammate Jacob Scott were third and fifth respectively.

Scott had ridden the 34-mile third and fourth category senior event earlier in the day and only just lost out to Veteran racer Alistair Wood (Aire Valley RT) in the sprint for the victory.

The event at the brand new Prissick Park circuit in Middlesbrough had Yorkshire’s finest youth riders tearing up the tarmac.

Abby Parkinson (Aire Valley RT) had a clean sweep in the three races for Under 14 Girls and in the Under 16s Boys race Womersley took two wins and a third, while Jacob Scott was second twice and also claimed a third place finish.

The Premier Division Track League at Manchester Velodrome saw Planet X duo Scott and Gledhill in the action, with Gledhill’s best result a third place in the Group 1 50-lap points race and Scott was second in the Group 2 Devil Race.

In the First Division Track League meeting Holme Valley Wheeler Lee Brown won the 1k Scratch race.

Huddersfield Star Wheeler Tom Broadbent’s time-trial season continued with the West Pennine Road Club Hilly event.

Broadbent knocked over two minutes off his 2010 time with a personal best of 36 minutes 41seconds for 18th place. Simon Yates (100% Me) was fastest in 33.34.

Seacroft Wheeler’s 50-mile Road Race for third and fourth category riders was staged at Selby.

John Doherty (VS Cycles) was best of the local riders in sixth place, the race was won by Simon Owens (Peak RC). Star Wheelers Ivan Boyes and Paul Smith finished safely in the bunch.
