OWEN MITTON led the Huddersfield contingent at the Three Peaks Cyclo Cross Race. The Huddersfield Road Club rider was 60th in 3hr 47min 16sec.
Clubmate Tim Beachill was fifth in the Over 50s category in 4-09-25 while Andy Whitworth, riding for the 18th time, finished in 4-14-00 and Dawn Hartley knocked an hour off her personal best with 5-45-46.
Star Wheelers Graham Piccavey and Giles Bailey both recorded PBs of 4-17-46 and 4-20-52 respectively.
The overall winner was Nick Craig (Scott UK), who got the better of seven-time king of the hills Rob Jebb (Wheelbase/Canondale/
Gorebikewear) to take top spot in 2-54-12, two minutes off the record.
Star Wheeler Andrew Pearson started the hill climb season in fine style with third place in the Yorkshire RC two-stage event on Arthington Bank and Weardley Bank.
Matt Clinton (MikeVaughn.co.uk), resplendent in the national hill climb champion’s jersey, won both climbs with a total time of 4min 56.1sec.
Pearson finished in 5-49.7, nine seconds behind Richard Meadows (Velo 29), who was second.
Leon Gledhill (Holme Valley Wheelers) finished an impressive 13th and clubmate Harmonie Waterman was 25th.
Hill climb veteran Paul Brierley (Huddersfield RC) was 16th.
Star Wheeler Mark Thaxter just missed out on the podium in the VC Chesterfield 10-mile time trial.
Thaxter was fourth place with yet another PB of 21-35.
Kevin Dawson (Sportscover) was fastest on the day in 20-19.
Mark Buckingham and Ivan Boyes, of Star Wheelers, travelled to Hanbury in the East Midlands for the Derby Mercury Road Race for 2nd, 3rd & 4th categories on 6.5 laps of a challenging 11-mile circuit which finished on the brutal climb of Hanbury Hill.
Owain Lovell (Ashfield RC) rode away up the final climb for an impressive win.
Buckingham and Boyes both missed out on the early break to finish the three-hour race in 25th and 46th respectively.
It was Buckingham’s last road race of 2009 in what has been a very successful year after making the switch from running.
