LOCAL riders Paul Dixon and Richard Binks claimed top six finishes in the Halifax Imperial Wheelers promoted their annual road race at the Norland circuit near Greetland.

The race was for 2/3/4 category riders over seven laps adding up to over 35 miles.

There were several attacks in the opening laps which came to nothing until Matthew Robinson (All Terrain Cycles) went clear on his own with five laps to go and held off the chasing bunch for the remainder of the race for an impressive win.

Steven Guymer (Raleigh Racing Team) and Elliott Teal (Crosstrax) were second and third, respectively.

Best locals were Dixon (VS Cycles) in fifth and Binks (Holme Valley Wheelers) was sixth.

There was a strong showing from VS Cycles riders with Ben Page, Dominic Turner, Matt Armitage, Niall Smith and Chris Thompson all finishing in the bunch, along with Ivan Boyes (Huddersfield Star Wheelers).

The Doncaster Wheelers Summer Road Race for 2/3/4 category riders took place on the Pickburn circuit

The race distance was 40 miles and, with the circuit being just less than two miles, the riders had to climb the finishing climb 22 times on what was a sweltering day.

Boyes (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) was straight on the attack joined by Paul Bell (Peak RC), and two other riders came across to join the breakaway which lasted five laps before the bunch reeled them in.

As the climbing and the high temperatures took their toll eight riders broke clear of the bunch and in later laps the bunch split in two leaving three groups riding the circuit.

Up and coming rider Daniel Storey (Sheffrec CC) took the victory from Daniel Kelley (Cult Racing) and Nathan Wilson (Cottingham Coureurs RT).

Guymer added to his points tally from the Halifax Imps race with another impressive result in fourth place.

Boyes finished in the third group along with Niall Smith (VS Cycles) and his father Sean (Halifax Imperial Wheelers).
