HOLME VALLEY cycle racer Gabriel Cullaigh unexpectedly found himself in international action in Belgium.

Cullaigh was originally reserve for the Great Britain team for a trip to the annual Lotto Ridley Tour event and received a late call to replace Ben Chapman, who was taken ill.

The event had four stages with a 63km road race on the opening day, followed by a 3.8km time trial and 66km road race with hill climbs on day two, and then a final day with a 67.5km road race with a long hill climb.

National teams represented Belgium, Holland, GB, France and Luxembourg with the rest of field made up of teams from the home nation.

RST Racing Team rider Cullaigh was 41st in the opening race, and improved on the second day to lie 24th in the overall classification.
