STAR Wheelers rider Mark Thaxter got his 2010 racing season under way with an impressive fourth place in the Otley CC 10 mile Time Trial.

Thaxter achieved a time of 21.07, a personal best for the course at Dalton near Thirsk.

Lee Tunnicliffe (Cycles Dauphin RT) came out on top with a time of 20.34.

Other local riders competing were Holme Valley Wheeler’s Gary Terry, Andrew Kerry, Samantha Mannion and Richard Haigh who finished in times of 24.08, 25.45, 27.04 & 27.38 respectively, and Ian Clough (Sowerby Bros CRT) stopped the clock with 27.22.

Tom Broadbent (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) rode back to back Time Trials at the weekend.

Broadbent had some bad luck in his first event, the Cleveleys RC 10 mile Time Trial as his tri-bars came loose after two miles of the event.

Despite this he went on the record a respectable time of 22.32.

On Sunday Broadbent rode round three of the Rudy Project Series in the Lake District.

He finished in 13th place in a time of 1.19.47 for the 31.2 mile course, two laps round Bassenthwaite Lake.

Michael Hutchinson (In Gear Quickvit Trainsharp) won in 1.05.03.

Gareth Owen (VS Cycles) continued to pick up points in his latest event, the Wetwang Spring Road Race.

Owen finished in ninth place in the 75km race for third and fourth category riders held on a tough course in the Yorkshire Wolds.

Promising young rider Ewan Sewell (Team Chevin Bang & Olufsen) won the event.

Kirklees Cycling Academy took 26 youngsters, including guest riders from Holme Valley Wheelers, Huddersfield Star Wheelers, Sowerby Bros CRT and Wakefield Tri to Manchester Velodrome on Sunday for a two-hour session.

Half the group were complete novices but with the help of coaches Russ Snowden and Ivan Boyes, by the end of the session they were racing round like track stars Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.

KCA’s next track trip is booked for Thursday May 20 (8.00-10.00). Priority will be given to KCA members with any guest places filled on a first come first served basis – email Dave Sowerby for further info dave@k-ca.org.
