WITH promotion getting ever nearer and with just three games to go, Honley B scored a tremendous win in the Yorkshire Super League darts Division I.

Honley didn’t get off to their usual fast start, but they still defeated Golden Fleece 6-2.

With Ade Newsome winning all his 11 league games this season he was a hot favourite, but even though he played well he was just pipped to the post by his opponent.

Andy Marshall played to his usual high standard, winning easily 3-0 to level the match, and then Carl Wagstaff put Honley ahead with a 3-0 score.

Dave Wilson was next and when he was 2-1 down he looked to be out, but he hit a maximum 180 followed by a 109 checkout to level – and then he took the final leg to put Honley 3-1 up at the interval.

Daz Battye also looked beaten on the resumption when his opponent had darts at the double to take it, but Battye fought back to win 3-2.

Mark Wainwright came up against an opponent who was hot on the doubles and was beaten, while Jason Elvin threw a great game, winning very easy and also gaining the man-of-the-match award with a near-80 average.

Last man on for Honley was Richard Schofield and, again, he delivered winning 3-0 to complete the 6-2 scoreline.

Honley will now set their sights on the title, especially as they meet challengers Acorn at home in the last match of the season.

Honley’s next game is at Ivy Cottage on May 31.
