OUTLANE ace Scott Waites was deeply disappointed after missing out on the quarter-finals of the British Darts Organisation World Championship.

The 33-year-old – who plays in Huddersfield for the Dusty Miller at Longwood and Foresters Arms at Crosland Moor – was last night defeated four sets to two by St Helens’ 25-year-old sharpshooter Steve Bunting, in 61 minutes.

Waites, who already has the Daily Mirror Darts Grand Slam title to his name, had reached the second round after knocking out highly-fancied Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey 3-0 at Frimley Green.

Joiner Waites ‘sawed’ into a one set lead, before trailing 2-1. He showed true Yorkshire grit to level at 2-2 before Bunting blunted his attack.

But, after his defeat sixth-seed Scott, whose nickname is ‘Scotty 2 Hotty,’ said: “It was just too warm out there on the stage tonight.

“My darts kept slipping even though I put wax on the barrels, this made it worse. The more I gripped and pushed the darts the worse I did.

“Stephen played well all game. I had my chances and missed loads but it was so hot up there, it was unbelievable.”
