Huddersfield boxer Ismail Anwar has vowed to put his disappointing defeat by Romeo Romaeo down to experience.

The lightweight lost on points over six rounds at London’s ExCel Arena, writes Luqman Liaqat.

“I landed a right in the second that had him moved, but I think I rushed in terms of trying to finish the fight,” explained Anwar.

“If I had taken my time and picked my shots I would have finished it.”

Anwar now has a four wins, five losses record since turning professional under Huddersfield trainer Chris Aston in 2012.

The 23-year-old added: “I will learn with experience. Next time I will know how to deal with a similar situation.”

Anwar suffered a deep cut close to his left eye early but showed strong will and determination to take the fight all the way.

Romaeo looked impressive with combinations and took the decision 59-56 from referee Phil Edwards.

“It was disappointing, but he was a tricky opponent,” said Anwar.

“There’s not really anyone around as awkward as him.

“The doctor has advised me not fight for six to eight weeks to let my eye heal up, but I’d love a rematch at some stage.”
