BROTHERS PEARSE begin a busy week with a home Gaelic football game against Young Irelands tonight.

Throw-in for the Yorkshire League match at All Saints Catholic High School is 7.30, and the Huddersfield side aim to build on a 5-7 to 0-12 win over Hugh O’Neill’s last time out.

Brothers also take on Leeds side Irelands in the final of the Father Shine Trophy on Sunday, August 3. The venue and throw-in time is to be confirmed.

This Saturday, the Under 11s take on St Benedict’s, another Leeds team, at Brooksbank School in Elland (2.00) in an exhibition match which forms part of the Halifax Irish Festival.

It’s the first time Gaelic football will have been played in the area since the late Fifties, when Brighouse had a team.

Meanwhile three of the club’s players, Danny Ramsden, Patrick Cassidy and Kane McGowan, will be on Yorkshire duty at the annual Feile Na Nog tournament in County Cavan, which starts on Friday.

Host village for the county party, who leave on Thursday, is Mullahoran.
