GOLF: Huddersfield’s second string will battle it out with Halifax Bradley Hall for a place in this year’s Halifax, Huddersfield Union Scratch Foursomes final.The two sides will meet at Woodsome Hall on Monday, August 4, having both had to go the extra distance to reach the semis in the first place.Huddersfield edged out Meltham 2 at the 19th hole in one quarter-final, while Bradley Hall had to go even further before beating Hebden Bridge on the 21st in their tie.In the bottom half of the draw the quarters were much more straightforward as Halifax I beat Crosland Heath 2, 5&4, while Dewsbury 2 defeated Crosland Heath 1 by the same scoreline.Halifax and Dewsbury now meet at Meltham, also on August 4.In the Handicap Foursomes, Meltham 1 beat Willow Valley by two holes to set up a semi showdown with Outlane 1 at Woodsome Hall, after their one-hole win over West End, while Crow Nest Park 1 meet Castlefields 1 at Meltham.The final event is the Junior Foursomes. The semi-finals will be contested by Crosland Heath 1 and Huddersfield 1 at Woodsome, while Willow Valley 1 face Longley Park 1 at Meltham.Woodsome Hall have allowed the Union use of their course, which should allow all matches to be completed, although competitors are requested to arrive for a 5.30 start, then starting play at 6.15.
SNOOKER: All clubs in the SMileS Huddersfield Billiards and Snooker Association should have already submitted their entries for the coming season.However, if any club has yet to do so, assistant League secretary Peter Atkinson requests they be sent in a soon as possible this week, prior to the formation of the league for the coming season.
GOLF: Steve Whiteley (Meltham) was the Wednesday Society’s Division I winner at Bradley Park. Playing off a 13 handicap he finished on 36 points, one point ahead of Wednesday Society captain Chris Holmes (Meltham) while Jimmy Main (Dewsbury) and David Law (Outlane) finished joint third on 34 points.Crosland Heath’s David Wood finished highest in Division II with 33 points off a 16 handicap. Bradley Park captain Keith Waddington finished ahead of Wednesday Society president Dennis Edwards (Elland) on the back nine countback, with Brian Jessop, of Dewsbury, third.Tomorrow’s meeting is at Marsden.
