THE first three of the Halifax, Huddersfield Union’s Yorkshire Inter-Union Junior League fixtures next season will be away.

Dates for 2008 have been confirmed and are:

April 6 - Harrogate, at Ripon City; April 13 - East Riding, at Allerthorpe Park; May 29 - Bradford, at West Bradford; July 25 - Leeds, at Outlane; July 31 - Sheffield, at Dewsbury; August 5 - Teesside, at Crosland Heath.

Teesside will host the Yorkshire Junior Champion Club Team event at Billingham on July 13.

The Inter-Union Junior Team Championship, to be hosted by East Riding Union, will be at Hornsea on August 28.

Richard Brown, from the English Golf Union, spoke about the benefits to clubs of the Golf Mark system when he attended the annual meeting of the Union’s junior organisers at Fixby, when plans for next season were discussed.

The latest term at the Willow Valley Academy starts on November 17 and costs £35 for the eight-week course, made up of 45-minute lessons, times varying from morning to afternoon.

Juniors will benefit from PGA qualified coaching, gain experience in the long game, pitching, chipping, bunker play, putting and etiquette, helping in their move from beginners to advanced junior groups.

To move onto the advanced group they will first have to work through the junior golf passport to monitor their progression.

Head professional Julian Haworth said: “These lessons take place on Monday and Friday evenings and are open to juniors who have completed the junior golf passport and are able to progress towards gaining a handicap.

“These lessons will further develop their skills in becoming better players, covering more technical areas of the game to help them achieve their full potential.”
