A MASSIVE turnout, glorious weather and top-notch greens made President’s Day at Crosland Heath a weekend to remember.

A field of 180 entered the men’s competition, with the best 50 going through to the second round on the Sunday, when the seniors, ladies and juniors also played.

President Barry Askham had double cause to celebrate, as this year also marks his 50th at the club. And his presidency will run into 2014, Crosland Heath’s centenary year.

Barry was delighted and said: “We have had a fantastic turnout, I don’t think we could have got any more golfers out on to the course if we’d tried.

“The weather has been excellent and the course is in wonderful condition. In my 50 years of golfing here, I don’t think I can remember the greens being in better condition.”

The fiercely contested men’s event was won by Richard Hanson, with a total score of 138, playing off a handicap of six.

Richard, brother of Woodsome Hall based professional Chris Hanson, beat the rest of the field by two clear shots, shooting 72 on the first day and romping home with an impressive 66 on Sunday.
