DEWSBURY District assistant professional Adam Crum grabbed his first-ever victory over his home course in the latest Halifax, Huddersfield Alliance meeting at the Pinnacle.

Crum, who has been Nigel Hirst’s deputy for four years, was partnered by Jimmy Main, who claimed his second win in two days, having taken the Huddersfield Wednesday Society meeting the previous day, as they came home with 45 points, to finish two clear of runners-up Norman Corcoran and Mark Guymer (of Meltham).

The two Dewsbury players came in on nine holes each, with the highlight being Main’s four-pointer on the third hole, when the 14 handicapper was down in three for a two and a nett eagle.

“The partnership worked really well. When one of us struggled, the other came in,” said Crum, who plays off a handicap of just two.

“And it’s nice to finally get a win in the Alliance, having finished second twice last year at Willow Valley as well as at my home course.”

Winning is not an unusual feat for Main, who regularly finishes in the prize list in the Wednesday Society, his latest victory coming at Elland.

The Pro-Am section was also won with 45 points, courtesy of independent duo Darren Arber (the professional at Halifax West End) and his teenage partner Liam Brompton (15).

And it was Brompton who proved to be the ace in the pairing, carding on no fewer than 11 holes, eight of which were three-pointers.

And that gave the Independent duo a six-point lead over their nearest rivals, Lightcliffe professional Ron Tickle and Bradley Hall’s Michael Appleyard.

The next meeting is now a Mixed tournament at Elland, which has been re-arranged to take place on Tuesday, December 4.
