THE Halifax, Huddersfield Union’s Juniors suffered a heavy defeat to Harrogate in their opening Inter-District League match at Knaresborough.

Harrogate won the contest 29-7 with Halifax, Huddersfield’s only points coming from two Foursomes wins in the morning, along with three halved Singles matches.

Bradley Park’s Ben Kaye (son of last year’s Union president Richard) was the most successful of the visiting team, partnering Hanging Heaton’s Josh Morton to a 3&1 win in the Foursomes, and notching a half in the afternoon Singles.

Marsden’s Josh McAspin was another member to glean a point from the Singles, along with Bradley Hall’s Josh Bailes.

Halifax/Huddersfield other success came from Calderdale duo Henry Butterworth (Hebden Bridge) and Liam Dean (Halifax) who gained a 2&1 Foursomes win.

Team manager Tommy Ward will be looking for an improvement tomorrow, when his side take on the Leeds Union at Ward’s own course, Longley Park.
