High scoring and eagles were the order of the day at the recent Halifax, Huddersfield and District Alliance held at Dewsbury.

Bradley Park professional Tom Wild and Oliver Oliver Shaw (5) of Crosland Heath won the Pro-Am with an impressive 43 points .

They finished one point ahead of Dave Astin and Tony Tighe (14) of Elland with pairings from Dewsbury and Crow Nest Park a further point back.

With golfers enjoying an extended Indian summer due to a lack of rain and wind so far this autumn, the professionals took full advantage of the benign conditions.

The early starters, which included both Pro-Am prizewinners, were subjected to a few rain showers, but as the afternoon progressed it became drier and sunnier and the Am-Am prizewinners had the best of the windless day.

The course was soft and the receptive, and greens were reasonably fast.

Wild was in fine form, eagling both the par five 10th and the par four 15th, Dewsbury’s James Ward eagled the par five 11th and amateur Tighe had a nett eagle on the par four third.

The Am-Am was won on a countback by Huddersfield’s Aaron Schnacke (+2) and Rob Turner (6), again with 43 points. Ray Attiwell (10) and Andrew Smith (17) of Ryburn were runners up on 42 points.

The amateurs held their own with some fine golf.

Schnacke eagled the par four 15th, Ray Attiwell had a nett eagle on the par four (stroke 1) seventh, Jonathan Binns (4) of Dewsbury had a nett eagle on the par four 13th, Dave Knapton (12) of Outlane a nett eagle on the uphill par four second.

There were also net eagles for Phil Sellen, Dave Oldham, N. Nuttall, Trevor Williams, Mark Rooney and Mick Haigh.

The next Alliance is at West End Golf Club on Tuesday, October 27.
