IT will be the end of an era when Willow Valley hold their final Yorkshire PGA Championship on Wednesday.

The club have hosted the prestigious event for the last 10 years, but now the contract is at an end.

Normally a three-day event, pressure on the Yorkshire PGA calendar means that this year the Championship will be held on a single day, with 36 holes being played.

More than 50 professionals from all over the county are competing for prize money of around £5,000, provided by Willow Valley.

Manager Helen Newton said: “This is a very prestigious event, but the contract is at an end and we feel we have supported Yorkshire PGA extremely well over the years.

"We hope that people will come and watch and walk the course, as well as taking a look at our recently-upgraded facilities.”

Willow Valley's uphill 623-yard 10th is one of the longest holes in the north of England.

Chris Hanson (pictured above) posted a four-round score of 291 in the St Omer European tour event.

The competition was won by Irishman Simon Thornton on the first play-off hole with a score of 279.
