IT WAS prize time for the various winners on the recent Examiner Overseas Golf Challenge in Portugal, and many of those on the holiday attended the post-tournament dinner and presentation evening, which this year was held at Bradley Park Golf Club.

Huddersfield golfer Jonny Heyes won the main prize, the Examiner Salver, having earlier in the year won the Examiner Matchplay tournament at Woodsome Hall, the reward for which was the prize of the free holiday to Lagos, on Portugal’s Algarve coast.

The Fixby five-handicapper duly won the main event on tour, finishing one point ahead of Meltham’s Arthur Henshaw and six in front of Crosland Heath’s Adrian Wallis who took third prize.

Henshaw gained his revenge in the Fourball Betterball however, as he and his partner Tommy Ward, from Longley Park, took first place ahead of Heyes and his partner John Morse.

And there was further glory for Henshaw, who was also a member of the winning Team Stableford and Team of the Week winner, along with Nick Wilson, Robin Hanson and Sue Morse. As well as finishing in fourth spot, Sue, who plays at Woodhall Hills, was also the tournament’s Leading Lady.

The whole event was sponsored by Paul Hanson, from Hanson Travel in conjunction with the Examiner, and Mr Hanson is pictured (first left) at the dinner, with Betterball winner Tommy Ward, leading lady Sue Morse, overall Challenge winner Jonny Heyes, runner-up and Betterball winner Arthur Henshaw and Examiner sports writer David Lockwood
