The Captains’ drive-in at Crosland Heath in their centenary year was a family affair.

Keith Walker took over the reins as captain, while his daughter, Judith Vickerman, was ushered in as the new lady captain.

Alvan Linley becomes the new rabbits’ captain, with Harry Boothroyd leading the juniors.

This year the club has a host of golfing and social occasions lined up to mark the club’s 100 years.

A series of new silver centenary trophies has also been commissioned; they have been handcrafted by master silversmith from original trophies, with the captain’s trophy being made in 1914.

Keith Walker said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be asked to be Captain of Crosland Heath in our centenary year, especially as my daughter, Judith, is lady captain and long-standing friend Barry Askham is president.

“We believe we have the best golf course in the area, designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, and we are looking forward to celebrating our first 100 years in style.”

Daughter Judy added: “I am looking forward to my year as lady captain. We have lots of events planned throughout the year and I wish the club and its members every success in our centenary celebrations.

“ I also hope we have some great weather this summer to complement our 100 years.”
