THE Yorkshire Open, last played at Fixby three years ago, is back on the schedule and is booked for Howley Hall on September 11 with new sponsors Hillsborough Steel Stock having come in with a £6,000 rescue fund.

A field of 30 professionals and 30 amateurs will contest a title held by Cherry Burton professional John Wells. The top 20 in the Yorkshire Bank-Yorkshire PGA order of merit automatically qualify, the next 10 spots going to professionals who enter a team in the pro-am to be played the following day.

Crosland Heath tournament player Chris Hanson moved into the top 20 of the merit list by winning the Otley pro-am on five under par 66 following his second place in The Oaks pro-am where he also shot 66.

He joins Robert Kershaw (Mirfield DR) and Willow Valley pair David Rands and Lee Shepherd in the leading 20 in the merit list.

Fixby’s Helen Searle missed out on the matchplay stages of the British Girls championship at Monifeith, near Dundee, after rounds of 76 82 placed her 92nd in the qualifying from which 64 advanced.
