JAMIE BOWER, the Yorkshire Boys player, aims to see Meltham celebrate a Halifax, Huddersfield Union match-play championshiptriumph when he has home course advantage on Fixby’s Aaron Schnacke in tomorrow’s 36-hole final.
That would mean a Union treble for the Thick Hollins club as they swept up the honours in last Sunday’s Scratch and Junior Foursomes.
The Bower-Schnacke duel was set up by both putting in sterling performances as the last eight did battle at Fixby last Saturday.
Bower handed Richard Broadley a surprise 3&2 defeat in the quarter-finals to end the Fixby man’s bid for a third successive title, then had to go to the second extra hole against Todmorden’s David Stafford, who had got past Bower’s Meltham clubmate Toby Garrett in the morning.
Schnacke moved through his last eight match with a solid 4&2 performance against stroke-play champion Mark Hepworth, from Dewsbury, then banked his final spot by putting out the formidable Sam Bridges on the 17th after Bridges had seen off West End clubmate Ian Marsland.
Bower stormed to five up early in his match with favourite Broadley. The Fixby man, who was seeking a fourth title in all, hit back to make a match of it before being edged out on the 16th.
