CLUBS in Huddersfield and district are dominating the West Yorkshire Alliance scene with Bradley Park emerging as winners of the latest event at Pontefract.

Following the success of Longley Park and Willow Valley in finishing one and two in the previous tournament at Ilkley, assistant professional Tom Wild led a Bradley Park quartet to a clear cut victory at Pontefract with a Fixby team headed by Paul Carman claiming second spot while a second Bradley Park foursome also finished in the frame.

Wild teamed with Mark Sweeney, Nick Blessick and Jordan Davie in carding a 22 under par total of 122 stableford points in the two from four to count event to win by four points from four other teams.

A card play-off was required to decide the four-way tie for second place and it ended in favour of Carman’s team of Fixby scratch team vice captain David Hughes, president of the Alliance, Robert Turner, the head greenkeeper at West End, and Chris Gilling, a member at Headley, a club in the Bradford Union.

The Bradley Park team of assistant Chris Foster, Tim Pollard, a member at Ogden, Ian Furness, from Dewsbury, and Richard Dembizky claimed third place ahead of Sand Moor, led by European Challenge Tour member Ben Mason, and a team from the host club.

CHRIS Hanson, the Crosland Heath tournament player, pairs up with a pal from college days, Sean Doherty, from Bury, in next week’s Sunningdale Foursomes.

In the first round on Tuesday they take on Matfen Hall pair Kenneth Ferrie, a winner on the European Tour, and amateur Lisa Hall over the New Course.

Among the lowest handicaps in the large field – all professionals play off plus two – Hanson and Doherty will concede strokes to their first round foes. If they progress, they switch to Sunningdale’s Old Course for the second round.

Ferrier, a 6ft 4in giant, has won twice on the European Tour, at the Spanish Open in 2003 and the European Open in Ireland in 2005.

In the 2006 US Open at Winged Foot, New York, Ferrie challenged all the way.

The Geordie went into the final round tied for the lead with Phil Mickelson but both were overhauled by Australia's Geoff Oily.

The following winter he won through the US Tour qualifying school and played 25 events last season without breaking any pots.
