CROSLAND Heath Rabbits captain Charlie Beaumont will take on his Heath clubmate Simon Whitham in the second round of this year’s Examiner Matchplay Tournament as the competitors chase the first prize of a free golfing holiday in Vilamoura.

There are currently three Intermediary round ties still to be played, but in order to give others a little more time over the summer holiday period, the next round has now been drawn.

Nick Wilson, a former winner of the tournament from Fixby, must wait the outcome of the Olivia Douglas v Steve Whiteley clash before starting his bid for a place in the quarter-finals, as must his Huddersfield teammate Jonny Heyes, a regular finalist in the popular Examiner tournament, who has a home tie against either Mick Cooke or John Doherty.

The Examiner’s Overseas golf champion Denis Walters will entertain Woodhall Hills’ Shaun Acaster, providing he can overcome Dewsbury’s Jimmy Caine first however.

The 18 men and one lady have all got their eyes on winning the competition which carries with it a first prize of a week’s holiday in Vilamoura, the premier golfing destination in Portugal (for which bookings are now being taken).

Accommodation is at the four-star Hotel Vila Gale Marina, and includes five days golf, over courses at Laguna, Pinhal, Millenium and the Old Course.

The holiday, departing from Manchester on Friday, November 5, for seven nights, costs £699 for golfers (all green fees included along with transfers to and from the hotel to the courses), and £399 for non-golfers.
