CROSLAND Heath tournament player Chris Hanson will campaign on the European Challenge Tour, the PGA Europro Tour and Players Tour (North West) but, due to the current economic climate, has lost his main sponsor so is actively seeking funding and support.

Local golfers can help out by joining a new event designed at helping the careers of potential golfing stars of the future like Hanson.

The International Institute of Golf Education is inviting club players to take part in a unique challenge by entering a team of three to play in the event at De Vere Oulton Hall, Leeds, on April 17, and which will be staged on pro-am lines. Team entry costs £200.

Each team will be provided with a Collegiate Tour player, all of whom are four handicap or better, in a contest in which there will be individual spot prizes like nearest the pin and longest drive, as well as team prizes.

As a past student of the International Institute, Hanson played many times on the ‘Collegiate Tour’ and in 2005 was named ‘Player of the Year’ with a stroke average of 69.67.

The Tour enables young golfers to take part in 15 tournaments at different locations throughout the year, with a point accumulation system.

The top eight from the Order of Merit qualify to represent the Tour at the grand final in Portugal.

The inaugural IIGE Am-am at Oulton Hall will include an action packed evening (tickets for non players which cost £25 per person should players wish to take along partners).

Also, individual sponsorship packages are available should anyone unable to attend on the day wish to support Hanson’s playing schedule for 2009.

Damien McGrane of Ireland made four birdies on his final seven holes to join American Anthony Kang at the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Johnnie Walker Classic.

The 37-year-old from Meath followed his opening 66 with a four-under-par 68 to draw level on 10 under with Kang, who carded his second consecutive 67 at The Vines Resort and Country Club.
