BUDDING Fixby junior golfer Harriet Richardson landed a memorable victory when she won the prestigious Shirley Guest Trophy at Woodsome Hall.
The 14-year-old (pictured) has been playing the game for only just over 12 months, but she took on the cream of Yorkshire’s junior talent and scored an impressive 42 points to emerge victorious from a field of 50 girls with handicap ranging from three to 36, in the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association Stableford tournament.
“Harriet received her handicap of 36 only in March this year, but has worked very hard to quickly reduce it to 21, and with a couple more comps before the end of the season she is hoping to reduce it even more,” said mum Corrina.
“She is being coached at Huddersfield by Alex Keighley who has been brilliant, and she will be making sure Harriet continues to work hard during the winter months so that she will be ready to take her handicap down even further when competitions start again next Spring.”
Meltham’s Melissa Wood came out on top in the Silver Division, while Lightcliffe’s Georgia Holden won the 9-hole competition.
