FIXBY’S Sandra Paul won through the qualifying for the English Senior Women’s championship at Littlestone in Kent with rounds of 80 85.

However, she then had to take on last year’s champion Chris Quinn (Hockley) in the first round and went down 8&7.

Caroline Marron, from Bromborough, Cheshire, was crowned the champion.

Paul’s Fixby clubmate Pat Wrightson missed qualifying by a stroke on 83 83 and went into the secondary competition in which she reached the semi-finals. She beat Anne Bridges (Mentmore) 3&2, Pannal’s Hilary Smyth 6&5 and then bowed 3&1 to Debbie Richards (Burhill) who went on to win the title.

GARETH Evans, who won the Yorkshire Amateur championship at Fixby in 2006 and who turned professional after last season, has signed to work with Paul Everitt, the professional at Crow Nest Park.

He joins Everitt within the recently formed Diamond Golf Studio based at the Hove Edge club where both will provide coaching, including on the automated driving range. They can be contacted on 01484 401121.
