FORMER Halifax, Huddersfield District Golf Union President Allan Woodhead was on a high early on New Year’s Eve, after rounding off 2010 with a glorious hole-in-one at Outlane.

Playing a regular Friday lunchtime round with Outlane’s EGGS (elderly gentlemen’s golf society), the 2007 Union president launched a three-wood off the tee at the 10th, which had recently been shortened from a par four to a par three because of the conditions.

And although neither Woodhead or his playing partners saw the ball go into the hole, on reaching the green a short search revealed the ball at the bottom of the cup.

That sparked off the celebrations for the club’s EGG’S who regularly turn out on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays throughout the year, with Woodhead putting the obligatory bottle of whisky on the bar when they returned to the 19th for his colleagues to join him in an early New Year’s celebratory drink.

With many clubs not open during Christmas week, Allan’s ace could well have been the last of the year!
