FIXBY duo Mary Durrans and Alison Tracey sparkled in the autumn sunshine this week as they won the Huddersfield, Halifax Ladies Winter Golf Alliance meeting at Bradley Park.

However, Crosland Heath’s Sue Horsfall had equally as big a smile as the winners after she recorded a hole-in-one at the par three 17th, on the way to finishing in third place with her partner Hilary Taylor with a 37-point tally, two points behind the leaders.

The Heath partnership were sandwiched between two Elland pairs, with Kath Widdop and Janet Evans coming in second, one point behind the winners, while Mary Mellor and Linda Gul were back in fourth spot.

Organisers were not only delighted with the weather, but also at the excellent turn-out with 14 clubs represented in the Foursomes Stableford event.

Meanwhile, following the competition, the Alliance held their annual meeting, at which Elland’s Jenny Priestley stood down after her term in office as chairperson/secretary, and was succeeded by Meltham’s Tilly Prior, who will now hold the position for the next three years.

Another Meltham member Josie Dalton has also taken over as treasurer from Kathleen Godridge.

The next event on the Ladies Alliance calendar is at Lightcliffe, on Wednesday, November 23.

Leading results at Bradley Park were:

Winners: Mary Durrans and Alison Tracey (Huddersfield) 39pts; 2 Kath Widdop and Janet Evans (Elland) 38pts; 3 Hilary Taylor and Sue Horsfall (Crosland Heath) 37pts; 4 Mary Mellor and Linda Gul (Elland) 33pts; 5 Margaret Blanchard and Bronwyn Todd (Longley Park) 32pts.
