FIXBY Ladies, Yorkshire’s most successful scratch team over the last few years, have once again made the Yorkshire Inter-Club final.

Despite getting off to a slow start and losing their first away match against Malton and Norton, the Huddersfield women won the return leg and beat Ilkley and Shipley Beckfoot – both at home and away – to qualify for the finals, which will be held at Hallamshire on Monday, September 5.

The other teams to qualify are Ganton, Oakdale (from Harrogate) and Lindrick.

Huddersfield Ladies have won the Yorkshire scratch team title four years out of the last six.

There was joy for the Huddersfield men’s scratch team as well as they maintained their position in Yorkshire Division I for the sixth consecutive year.

Thoughts of winning turned to survival in extremely difficult conditions.

The top 12 remain in Division I and Huddersfield finished ninth. Woodsome Hall, after promotion from Division II, also stayed up in 11th.

Huddersfield individual scores – Richard Broadley 77-74, Neil Williams 78-80, Andy Shaw 80-81, Charles Webb 84-83.
