Increasing numbers of Huddersfield golf clubs are investing in a small machine designed to save lives on the course.

And the latest club to get a defibrillator is Crosland Heath, which held a training evening for the new machine on Wednesday.

A defibrillator is a simple-to-use machine which actually speaks instructions to the person using it. Pads are placed on the body of a person suspected of suffering from a heart attack which send an electric current to the heart.

The Crosland Heath machine was donated by member and heart attack survivor Ian Wallis and his employer, Jason Taylor of Taylor & Co Hair Studio, Brighouse.

Shaun Ingram, managing director of of Cardiology Science, the company which supplied the machine, gave a demonstration to the golfers.

Ian said: “The defibrillator is absolutely brilliant.

“I couldn’t believe how easy the machine ns to use, it even talks to you and tells you what to do.

“The machine will be fixed on the wall outside the pro shop. I hope it will never be used, but people will know it is there and it could save a life.”

Entries for the competition to win family membership at Marsden Golf club for 2015 have now closed. The winner will be announced next week.
