UNION team manager Chris Mear and Meltham clubmate James Moore won the Union scratch foursomes, beating Ryburn’s Chris Rudd and Craig Hare 5&4 in the 36-hole decider at Woodsome Hall after standing four up at the end of the first round.

The Meltham pair were never behind after winning the first and third holes in the morning, and they went to six-up at one stage before closing out the match on the 14th green.

Rudd and Hare made a fight of it by winning the last two holes of the first round then pulling back to three-down by taking the first in the afternoon.

Mear and Moore regained a grip, winning the second, fifth and ninth to go back to six-up but the Ryburn men took the 11th and 12th to gain a glimmer of hope. The next hole was shared, and the end came on the 14th.

With Mear and Moore set for a birdie from three feet, ex-Meltham player Rudd and Hare contrived to three putt for the verdict to go to Meltham.

Bower maintained his winning Fixby form by partnering Luke Edmonds to a 6&4 victory over West End’s Nathan Raynor and Brad Hardcastle in the Junior Scratch Foursomes final at Woodsome Hall.

The Meltham duo held a commanding lead after the first round which proved too much for the West End youngsters despite a fightback.

The Handicap Foursomes title went to Castlefields with a comprehensive 9&8 win against host club Woodsome Hall. Darren Jennings (12) and Matthew Rioch (10) led Lee Snaith (12) and Phil Sawyer (10) four up after the first round.
