HUDDERSFIELD clubs miss out on staging a major county event in the coming season, although Fixby will host Yorkshire’s Northern Counties League match against Lancashire on May 8 and the Division II Team championship goes to Woodsome Hall on August 4.

A county members meeting at Meltham will be the lone event to be played in Huddersfield in 2011, on September 1

Dates for the next two seasons will be confirmed at the annual meeting of the Yorkshire Union of Golf Club at Pannal on February 24.

This year’s Amateur championship goes to Fulford on July 6-10 when Moortown’s Nigel Sweet defends, and Crosland Heath’s Bob Wallace will seek to retain the Seniors title at Garforth on June 14-15.

Other major dates for this year include: Boys Championship, Moortown, June 2; Under 16 Championship, Wheatley, July 28; Mid Amateur Championship, Cookridge Hall, September 15.

Financially, the county had a successful 2009. A surplus of £16,198 of income over expenditure was shown over the year ending November 30.

Though total income ran to £237,590, down by more than £2,000 on 2008, expenditure of £221,392 was more than £6,000 less than in the previous year.

Club subscriptions of £480,308 – £302,292 passed to the English Golf Union – were £9,000 down on the previous year.

Income from championships remained similar to the previous year though fees from county members’ events of £25,320 increased by over £4,000, and the new county cards system brought in £3,090.

Championship expenses of £21,834 were up by more than £1,000 and costs of inter-county matches of £20,552 went up by £600.

The county union have fixed assets of £23,158.
